Congratulations Mr & Mrs Milligan

Congratulations to Emma & Gavin Milligan who were married on Saturday the 21st of December at the Old Barn in Esholt, Bradford at 1pm.SKL Photography

We arrived early at Emma and Gavin’s house (obviously Gavin was not there… sticking to tradition) to find it full of activity. Emma’s Dad Barry (sporting a onesie) Step mum Maggie and Emma’s step brother Aaron were busy bees making cuppa’s, sausage sarnies and bacon butties for Emma’s bridesmaids and us! We felt truly spoilt at the warm hospitality.

Emma was feeling a tad nervous about the day (to put it lightly). It was hard to take her seriously in huge rollers (Nora Batty would be proud) and a Minnie mouse onesie! After a bit of stressing she changed into pyjamas claiming she was getting too warm and flustered! Chief bridesmaids Rachel and Kelly kept Emma as reassured and calm as possible. We busied ourselves catching snaps of the girls and ladies getting ready – hair, make up, dresses accessories etc. Emma’s Mum Sue also dropped by to check everything was on schedule. A very organised bunch by all accounts. It was soon time for Emma to put on her lovely lacey dress and make her way downstairs where her dad waited for a first glimpse. The moment was very emotional and both Emma and Barry both filled up a bit! As the bridesmaids were not quite ready (not a patch on your organisation skills Emma) we got a few pictures of Emma and Barry in the front garden on their own before making our way to Gavin at the Old Barn.

We met Gavin with his groomsmen posse outside the Old Barn just after 12pm. We were lucky weather wise. It had rained briefly but the rest of the day light hours were pretty much rain free.

We got a few fun pictures of the 5 dashing guys on the lane outside the barn. They seemed to enjoy themselves and greeted celebrity guest Levi Roots… On second glance maybe not but we can see the resemblance and apparently the guest (real name Bobby) gained his nickname on the stag do. An eager bride was seen approaching so the groom and his groomsmen had to quickly dash inside when we caught a glimpse of Gavin’s Dad’s jaguar escorting Emma. Near miss there but we are pro’s – we do notice these little things…

The ceremony was lovely. A couple of friends gave touching readings and apart from Emma’s tearful first glance, the ceremony was full of smiles, kisses and loving glances. The fairy lights wrapped round the beams gave the day that special festive feel.

After the ceremony the guests braved the cold as we had to make the most of the daylight hours and capture the whole wedding party enjoy Emma and Gavin’s big day.

We then took a short trip up to Baildon Moor (the very spot where ‘Rita, Sue and Bob too’ was filmed- Most Yorkshire folk will be aware of that classic). It was a tad windy and cold but Emma (clearly a girl guide in her youth) came prepared with her wellies and a fur coat! They were both extremely brave and posed away with the stunning backdrop of the breathtaking Yorkshire countryside!

Back at the venue everyone was getting into the Christmassy wedding spirit with the help of wine, beer and er… well… spirits.

Once the guests had taken their seats the bride and groom announced in and took their places at the top table. Santa followed with gifts for the younger guests. This caused a lot if excitement and again reminded everyone that Christmas spirit was a big part of the day.

Speeches were first. Emma’s Dad Barry gave a lovely speech first of all. Short but very sweet, he did mention the fact that Gavin, as a true gent asked his permission before proposing to Emma. Gavin’s Dad Jack gave also gave a touching speech conveying his best wishes for the couple’s future and his and wife / Gavin’s mum Kath’s delight in welcoming Emma to the family.

Then Gavin gave his speech with some amusing stories about how they got together and how he teases Emma that she’s got OCD!! Very charming… ha ha. Good job he had some lovely things to say to the beautiful bride too. He informed the guests that the day was very significant and sentimental as 3 years previously they had gone on their very first date.

The best man’s Dan’s speech then followed in which he expressed his best wishes and told quite a few risky jokes! Enjoyed mostly by the rowdy table to the left of the top table – yeah we clocked you guys! We captured the expressions of the majority of the wedding party during the speeches; some flattering and some maybe not so but funny all the same!

The wedding breakfast then started and we left the guests to enjoy their meals.

As the couple requested a slide show we got to work on that for a while. Before the night do we did get the couple outside for a sparkler final shot. There was a quiet road outside the venue that we had used  for the lads pictures earlier that seemed like the ideal place. It suddenly turned to rush hour for some reason (when we needed it to be quiet) so it was had work getting it but we did it in the end. This was after it took 10 minutes to light the sparklers and a couple of incidents involving a Punto and a couple of taxi’s.

The final chapter was the evening reception which seemed to be enjoyed by all. Emma and Gavin took to the floor for their first dance (‘Better’ by Boyzone) for another chance to smooch. Their beaming faces on the dance pictures show that they had enjoyed themselves and were indeed a very happy couple!

They have chosen to spend their honeymoon and Christmas at Center Parcs in the picturesque Lake District. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness!

A few taster pictures are on our Facebook page ready to view already.
